Episode 004

Money Should Have a Purpose Before It Moves

Finance asks how money moves. Almost never why.

Nearly all of finance is obsessed with how money moves — faster, cheaper, across more borders. Almost nobody asks why it's moving in the first place.

That's a strange gap. Because for the person sending it, the “why” is the entire point. Money is never just moving. It's rent that has to be there Monday. It's the slice you're keeping for a trip in two years. It's the amount that can't be touched because it's someone's school in January.

To the rails, all of that is identical — a value, a destination, a timestamp. To the human, none of it is. And most financial products are built to serve the rails' view, not the human's.

I think the next real shift isn't faster movement. It's money that knows what it's for before it goes anywhere — savings that behave like savings, spending that stays in its lane, purpose built into the product instead of left entirely to the person's willpower.

Money moves. Purpose decides where.

If your money knew what it was for, what would it do differently?
